Hello and welcome to MarketLife, my new podcast series. MarketLife is a podcast with a broad scope and covering a wide range of interests. While we may talk about financial markets (sometimes a lot), it is about a lot more than markets and money–it’s also about you. It’s about your interests, your skills, your relationships, your health, your life, and making the most out of all of those.

Over the years I have been blogging, I have generally written for a specialist audience. The posts that have received the most attention have been fairly in-depth looks at the statistics behind markets. Many of the criticisms and suggestions I have received have been invitations to dig deeper, or critiques for areas I have glossed over to get to the point. (There’s only so much you can do in a blog post!)

However, I’ve also gotten lots of questions from people who want a more basic introduction to financial markets. I write a lot about trading, but what if you are a longer term investor? What if you are trying to understand what news about quantitative easing, Greek credit risk, or conflict in Ukraine (just to name a few recent issues) might do to your retirement portfolio? What if you don’t know if you should buy stocks or be in bonds, and aren’t sure how to think about the difference? Well, we’re going to cover a lot of those basic questions here, so this show is for you.

This is also a show that goes far beyond financial markets, looking at topics like creativity, learning new skills, managing time and stress–basically how to do everything you do to the best of your ability.
